Construction of Gallatin County Middle School Begins (continued)
The building was also designed to incorporate a number of state-of-the art materials and mechanical systems to ensure that it is as low maintenance and energy efficient as possible. Some of these systems include:
- Natural daylighting and sunshades on south-facing windows to minimize the need for electric lighting;
- Occupancy sensors on interior lights to minimize energy usage;
- A highly insulated, reflective roof to minimize solar heat gain;
- Geothermal heating and cooling; and
- Mechanical systems on the inside of the building rather than on the roof to make routine maintenance more convenient and eliminate the wear that would be inflicted by the elements if they were outdoors.
