RossTarrant Architects’ Elementary School Designs
Recognized at National Conference

LEXINGTON –The addition and renovation of A. C. Glasscock Elementary in Marion County and the new McBrayer Elementary School in Rowan County recently attracted the attention of two national groups. A jury comprised of representatives from the National School Boards Association (NSBA) and American Institute of Architects (AIA) decided to feature both schools in the Exhibition of School Architecture at this year’s National School Boards Association Conference. The conference, which took place in San Francisco on April 14th, was attended by more than 12,000 school administrators and board members from across the country.

The schools, which were designed by RossTarrant Architects, were selected for exhibition because of each design’s unique response to the needs of its individual district. Both schools featured a number of high-performance characteristics including the use of natural daylighting, the careful selection of efficient and sustainable materials, and systems that reduce energy consumption. The design of A. C. Glasscock Elementary also gave the school a new, eye-catching face that has increased its appeal to students and the entire community. McBrayer Elementary was designed to be uniquely sensitive to its rural, wooded site.
