Western Kentucky University Florence Schneider Hall Addition & Renovation

Originally constructed in 1929 as West Hall, Florence Schneider Hall was designed in the Georgian Revival style with white limestone facades and outstanding architectural features. Western Kentucky University currently utilizes this facility to house the Academy of Mathematics and Sciences in Kentucky, a program offering on-campus residential accommodations for early admission, gifted high school students who have demonstrated interest and aptitudes for pursuing careers in mathematics and science related fields.

This facility includes student living spaces, social areas, a computer lab and collaborative learning spaces in addition to office spaces for faculty and staff administering this program. As part of the renovation, all of the buildingâ€™s systems were replaced including doors and windows, roof, interior construction, finishes and fixtures, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, life safety, communications, information technology and security systems.

Fourth floor additions over existing roof areas to provide additional student accommodations and resolve existing life safety concerns were among the many unique aspects of this facility. Future additions have already been designed in preparation for the growth of what is sure to be a very successful program. Located in the heart of Western Kentucky Universityâ€™s campus, this facility affords students a unique learning and educational opportunity.
