In order to advance educational opportunities available to area residents and enhance the economic development of the surrounding community, a new, satellite campus for Elizabethtown Community & Technical College was developed in Springfield, Kentucky.
The new facility offers a variety of modern classrooms and state-of-the-art industrial labs including fluid power, electric and large machine tool & die. In addition, space was provided for classrooms and labs that are dedicated to programs offered by Community & Economic Development Coordinators.
The design of the new facility incorporates numerous sustainable features including sun shades, occupancy sensors, energy efficient lighting, and highly insulated walls and roof. Materials that are durable, low-maintenance and composed of a high percentage of recycled content were specified whenever possible and feasible.
Notable design features include two unique glass entry lobbies, both of which utilize opaque sunscreens to reduce glare and heat gain. In addition, a double-story main corridor provides clerestory lighting into the heart of the building while quad classrooms with movable partitions offer the utmost flexibility to accommodate classes and programs of widely varying sizes and styles.
