Morehead State University Allen Field Feasibility Study

Morehead State University Allen Field Feasibility Study

John Sonny Allen Field was designed and constructed in the 1970s by university personnel. The baseball stadium structure consists of precast concrete bleachers, with the occupiable space beneath the stadium structure containing public restrooms, coaches’ offices, officials’ locker rooms, storage areas, concession stands and home team and visitors’ teams’ locker rooms. The existing baseball stadium provides seating for approximately 1,000 spectators. Adjacent to the stadium are various small structures and buildings that serve as practice and storage needs.

The University wanted to assess existing conditions and deficiencies, as well as identify possible improvements and preliminary cost estimates for the project. Mechanical and electrical systems were not included within this study. The scope of this study includes the following items: (1) Reconfiguring the existing outfield, lengthening the distance to the outfield fence in right field, (2) Re-grading of the existing playing field to address existing drainage deficiencies, (3) Repair / upgrade the warning track at the outfield fence, (4) Waterproofing of the existing structure, (5) Renovation of interior spaces, (6) Address ADA accessibility issues, (7) Expand the existing press box, and (8) Upgrade the exterior appearance.
