Selected as the local consultant for the project, RossTarrant Architects worked in collaboration with an extensive design team to develop an outline of the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center project that was led by Holzman Moss Bottino Architecture of New York. Components included facility programming, a feasibility study, site selection, projected cost opinion, projected schedule and preliminary schematic designs for the facility.
The feasibility study component sought to determine financial needs, potential programs, potential audiences, revenue forecasting and operation costs of the facility. Site selection involved the investigation of three potential locations in Bowling Green as well as related traffic studies for each. Information was then combined to develop a projected cost and schedule as well as the necessary preliminary designs to begin securing funding.
With the feasibility study complete, the design team began development of a final design. The new Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center features an 1,800 seat auditorium designed to accommodate regional and national performances. An art gallery to showcase prominent local artists is included in the lobby. A multipurpose room will provides ample space for smaller performances and also functions as a black box theater.
The new venue has provided Bowling Green the opportunity to attract a higher caliber of artistic and cultural events than ever before and brings unprecedented access to the arts to people throughout the region.
