Franklin Elementary School Addition & Renovation

Franklin Elementary School Addition & Renovation

Franklin Elementary School, a preschool and kindergarten center, sought a renovation and addition to ease overcrowding and improve their outdated facility. The addition spanned across the front of the school, giving the existing building a brand new face and significantly increasing the number and size of the windows bringing in natural daylight.

The addition brought several new features to the existing facility. An administrative suite was added and a secure entry vestibule was created. A new media center features separate spaces for computer workstations, puppet theater and individual reading areas, as well as space for group instruction. Four existing classrooms were extended, renovated and given dedicated bathrooms.

The extensive renovation of existing spaces was also an important part of the project. A raised stage in the gymnasium was removed to create a floor-level alcove, and the gym floor was completely replaced. All rest rooms, windows, floors, ceilings and lighting were renovated throughout the entire building.

Exterior work included the creation of a new bus loop in front of the school and the installation of new exterior lighting. The school’s roof was also replaced.
