This new 120,000 square foot facility, designed specifically for the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, replaced an existing outdated building that no longer met the needs of these programs. This new structure, on Western Kentucky University’s main campus in Bowling Green, Kentucky, is a signature facility for the campus, designed specifically for the programs contained within this college.
In addition to a clear, efficient internal layout, this new tool for learning incorporates the latest classroom technology and an abundance of natural light throughout. Classrooms, conference areas, an auditorium, a media resource center, psychology research laboratories, faculty offices and clinic spaces are all included in this new facility. In addition, outdoor social and learning spaces are fully incorporated into the design. Featuring a classical architecture aesthetic, this facility celebrates Western Kentucky University’s rich history as an institution of higher learning while creating new, state-of-the-art spaces dedicated to teaching and the educational process.
Further demonstrating the University’s forward thinking, Gary A. Ransdell Hall features a number of sustainable and high-performance features including low-flow plumbing fixtures, recycled and regional building materials, a reflective roofing membrane, highly insulated walls and roof and native plantings throughout the site. The project was awarded LEED Gold by the US Green Building Council.
