EKU New Student Housing

EKU New Student Housing

Designed in association with Mackey Mitchell Architects, this new, 259-bed residence hall is located on the current site of the Brockton Apartments in the heart of EKU’s campus. Designed to serve upperclassmen, the hall features student rooms, spaces for communal gathering, a Hall Director’s apartment and suites for four Resident Advisors.

A large entry lounge welcomes residents into an open gathering space bathed in soft, natural light from the large windows that look out onto the surrounding lawn. Suites are configured for four residents each in two different configurations: two-bedroom shared suites and four-bedroom singles. Each suite features a shared living room, bath and kitchenette.

Common spaces throughout the hall will include meeting rooms, study spaces, an “iron chef” kitchen, central laundry room, mail room and bicycle storage.

The building’s brick and stone exterior cladding conveys a traditional, welcoming residential feel. The building’s long axis faces the tree-lined Kit Carson Drive, giving the hall prominence along this pivotal streetscape, transitioning between the scale of the adjacent science building and future residential development on Kit Carson Drive. Patios, tables, chairs, grills and other site furnishings encourage residents to gather outdoors and foster a sense of community.
