The Logan County Board of Education received a federal grant to help fund the purchase of weight machines and cardiovascular equipment that would be jointly used by the physical education department and athletic teams of Logan County High School and the local community of Russellville. The problem was, the district needed a facility to house this equipment in order to move it from the competition gym mezzanine. RossTarrant Architects assisted in creating a facility to accomplish this and much more.
The new facility includes an auxiliary gymnasium to serve women’s volleyball and provide practice space for many other teams and activities. In addition, locker rooms, office space and classrooms were created. A community exercise room and public rest room were designed to facilitate the community’s use of the new facility as well as the physical education curriculum of the high school.
This facility is an example of the local school system’s unique responsiveness to the needs of the local community.
