Originally constructed in 1911, Van Meter Hall is one of the first original structures on Western Kentucky University’s main campus in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Initially intended for use as a convocation hall and administration building, this facility has experienced a varied usage throughout its history. With the proposed renovations and re-construction of the stage house this facility will be better able to meet the needs of a wide variety of functions within its 1,000 seat auditorium. Functions to be accommodated will include all types of musical vocal and instrumental performances, drama productions, speaking engagements and audio-visual presentations.

Most recently renovated in the 70’s, the majority of the building’s systems are in need of replacement and refurbishment. This project will address many of the building’s primary systems including the exterior envelope, extensive interior renovations, interior finishes, auditorium seating, ADA accessibility, acoustical improvements, performing arts systems, audio / visual systems, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, communications and security systems.

In addition to being listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Van Meter Hall is immediately adjacent to the archeological remnants of Fort Lytle, a Confederate Civil War fortification constructed in 1861. The practical, cultural and historical significance of Van Meter Hall and its surrounding area cannot be overstated. With the completion of this current project, this historic facility will be well suited to meet the needs of Western Kentucky University and its surrounding community.
