Norton Center for the Arts

Norton Center for the Arts

With the goal of providing additional space for administrative activities, Centre College sought a sensitive addition to the Norton Center for the Arts’s existing lobby space.

In addition to providing administrative space, the project included the renovation of the building’s primary public restrooms and replacement of all existing windows, curtain wall systems and exterior doors. The addition of an elevator provides direct ADA access from the main lobby to the stage level below and enables easy movement of theatre equipment.

The renovation incorporated a number of sustainable design features including new materials with high recycled content and low-VOC emissions, low flow plumbing fixtures, energy efficient lighting and new energy efficient windows and glazing systems.

The Norton Center for the Fine Arts was designed by Taliesin Associated Architects in a very distinctive style of architecture and construction methods which are most closely associated with Frank Lloyd Wright. As such, all renovations and new construction to this existing facility were done with a great deal of sensitivity. Towards this goal, RTA coordinated with Taliesin Architect H. Patterson Fletcher to ensure that all construction and improvements were appropriately designed and detailed.
