The new Jackson County Area Technology Center is the direct outcome of a unique partnership between state, local and federal funding agencies. The facility itself was constructed on a 350-acre tract of land adjacent to the Daniel Boone National Forest. This site will eventually be developed as a campus for the school district, to include an adult education facility, new high school, athletic facilities and board offices. The project included a $1.2 million road to provide access to the site.

The building is designed as a multi-use facility which incorporates five technology laboratories: automobile technology, construction technology, wood technology, metals technology, and a health laboratory. A separate component of this building is a complete administrative suite with workroom, conference room, and first aid facilities; a large vending and lobby area with concession stand; and a 500-seat auditorium along with associated stage, green room, and dressing room facilities. In addition to this auditorium space, the empowerment zone portion of the facility includes a distance learning classroom and computer laboratory.
