The Bath County Board of Education sought to make several improvements to its facility including the renovation and expansion of both its cafeteria and media center, both of which previously fell below KDE mininimum square footage requirements.
New additions were designed to provide spaces for both the high school and the alternative school. One standard classroom and one science lab were added for use by the high school, and two standard classrooms were included to house the alternative school—a program previously held off site due to space constraints. An office and restroom were also included as part of the alternative school space.
While the owner sought to create space to house the alternative school on-site, it was equally important to have that space separated from the rest of the facility. The alternative school area was designed with this in mind, including a door equipped with panic hardware that locks from both sides.
In addition to work on the main building, this project also included athletics upgrades to the athletic field on campus including a new press box, bleachers, expanded parking and new lighting.
