Through the renovation of this outdated facility, the Greenup County Board of Education sought to regroup its classes by department, eliminate its existing open-plan concept and relocate the administrative offices and media center.
One of the biggest challenges in renovating this two-story facility was to carefully plan the construction of the project to enable continued use of the school. To achieve this goal, the renovation was planned in three phases.
In the first phase, the administrative offices were relocated adjacent to the main entrance of the building and a new entry canopy was added.
The second phase relocated the occupants of the entire second floor into temporary classrooms created by the owner throughout the first floor enabling the second story to be completely demolished and rebuilt. The new second floor classrooms feature improved accessibility and acoustics as well as new windows, improved lighting, new HVAC and technology system upgrades.
The third phase relocated the first floor occupants to the renovated second floor and enabled the first floor to be demolished and rebuilt. The new first floor increased the number of available classrooms and moved the media center to a more central and prominent location in the school.
