The Bourbon County Board of Education determined a need to renovate and expand Bourbon County High School. Many of the common spaces in the existing facility, such as the cafeteria and media center, were originally designed to accommodate two grade levels rather than the current four and portable classrooms were being utilized to handle unexpected growth in enrollment. The addition and renovation project was designed to solve these problems.
The design team developed an addition that would house a new cafeteria and media center and create a new front entrance to the building. The existing spaces were then renovated into additional classroom space, including special classrooms for art and science.
The project also included site work for parking and traffic circulation as well as mechanical and electrical system upgrades to a large portion of the existing facility.
