Lynn Camp Middle & High School

Lynn Camp Middle & High School

The new Lynn Camp Middle / High School replaced an existing high school built in the 1920s. In designing the new facility, the project team had to address a sloping site with multi-level entrances, traffic patterns, and circulation of students.

The building is organized around a central main street with clerestory windows which easily identify circulation within the building. Because the facility would house both middle and high school students, circulation patterns were carefully planned to limit contact while still allowing them to share the common areas like the media center, a 400-seat auditorium, 850-seat gymnasium and the cafeteria.

The administrative offices and media center overlook the main entry plaza through a rounded glass wall which fronts on a main thoroughfare. This design gave the school the high visibility and dramatic entry desired by the owner. This two-story building was designed to sit naturally on the sloped site, surrounded by stepped levels of parking and athletic fields.
